With over 50 years of experience and a 6th-degree Black Belt, he has cemented his status as one of the most dominant competitors in history on the IBJJF circuit — the highest stage in the sport.
A retired MMA fighter and world-renowned coach, Master Renato brings unparalleled expertise spanning sport Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, and self-defense. He now travels the globe teaching, overseeing a network of affiliated schools and shaping the next generation of practitioners. Coach Mike Rose
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, and moving to Southwest Missouri in 2000, Mike's path was shaped early on by his grandfather, a 16-year Navy veteran. While Mike excelled on the football field for nine years as an Inside Linebacker and Full Back, it was a friend's challenge to try wrestling in high school that changed the trajectory of his life. At a time when he was navigating profound loss and instability, the wrestling mat became his sanctuary — teaching him resilience, grit, and the power of showing up.
After years in construction and asset protection, Mike stepped into his first BJJ gym in 2016. What began as a return to MMA training quickly became an all-consuming passion. He often says: "Wrestling changed my life, but Jiu-Jitsu saved it." In 2020, under the mentorship of Master Renato Tavares, Coach Mike was passed the torch to open his own academy in Springfield.
A devoted Christian, father of two, and a true family man — Coach Mike isn't just building athletes. He is building a stronger community, one day at a time.
